Where It Started

Dennis Pittard grew up in Central Texas and went to high school in Austin. In 2004, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served four years on active duty and four more in the reserves. Eight years total.

The Marines did not teach him how to roof. They taught him something harder to find in this industry: a standard he will not drop just because nobody is watching.

He came home to Central Texas, started working in roofing, and quickly saw what was wrong with it. The Better Business Bureau tracks roofing complaints every year, and the same problems keep showing up: contractors quoting materials homeowners did not need, crews rushing through installs to get to the next job, and companies that stopped answering the phone the minute the check cleared.

In 2021, he started Recon Roofing to run things the way he was trained to run them. Not because it is good marketing. Because it is the only way he knows how to work.

Why the Name Is "Recon"

People ask about the name sometimes. It is not random.

Recon is short for reconnaissance. In the military, recon means going in first, getting the real picture, and reporting back what you actually found, not what somebody wants to hear.

That is what a roof inspection is supposed to be. You go up, you look at everything, you come back down, and you tell the homeowner the truth. If the roof has five years left, you say that. If it needs replacing, you say that. You do not shade the answer based on whether you want to sell a job that week.

Dennis named the company after the part of the job he thinks matters most: telling people the truth about what is going on up there.
