Recon Roofing Texas

Outdoor Wiring

Fans, lighting, shed power, and outdoor outlets. Done to code and built to last in Texas weather.

Power Where You Need It

Most backyards were wired for one outlet by the back door and nothing else. Adding a ceiling fan over the patio, lighting along a walkway, or real power to a shed turns a space you walk past into one you use. We run the circuits properly rather than daisy-chaining off an existing outlet and hoping the breaker holds.

What We Wire

If it needs a circuit and it lives outside, it is in our wheelhouse.

  • Outdoor ceiling fans
  • Patio and landscape lighting
  • Shed and workshop lights and outlets
  • Window unit power for an outbuilding
  • Weather-rated outdoor outlets
  • Power runs for outdoor kitchens

Outdoor Is Not the Same as Indoor

Exterior circuits need GFCI protection, weather-resistant receptacles, and in-use covers that keep water out while something is plugged in. Buried runs need the right depth and the right conduit for the soil. Fixtures rated for damp locations are not the same as ones rated for wet locations, and the difference matters on an uncovered patio in a Texas downpour.

Wiring a Shed or Workshop

A shed with real power is a different building than a shed with an extension cord running to it. We size the feed for what you actually plan to run out there, whether that is a couple of lights and a charger or a window unit and power tools. Extension cords under a door are a fire risk and they will not carry a compressor anyway.

Size it for what you will actually run

A couple of lights and a charger is one thing. A window unit and power tools is another. An extension cord under the door will not carry either, and it is a fire risk.

Landscape and Path Lighting

Lighting the walkway, a live oak, or the front elevation changes how the property reads after dark.

  • Low voltage systems for beds and paths
  • Uplighting on trees
  • Runs laid out so you are not looking into a fixture from the porch

Do It During the Build

If you are having a patio cover or pergola built, wire it while the structure is open. Conduit through open framing costs a fraction of surface-mounting it afterward, and the finished result has no visible runs.

Built to Code and Inspected

Everything goes in to code, and we pull permits and schedule inspection where the city requires it. Leander, Cedar Park, Round Rock, and Georgetown each handle electrical permitting a little differently. Unpermitted electrical work becomes your problem at resale when it shows up on an inspection report, so it is worth doing correctly the first time.

Why it matters later

Straight Answers on Scope

Some jobs are a simple addition to an existing circuit. Others need a new run from the panel, and if your panel is full or dated, that is a bigger conversation. We will tell you which one you are looking at before we start rather than discovering it halfway through and revising the price.

Common Questions

Do I need a permit for outdoor electrical work?
Usually yes for new circuits, and it varies by city. Leander, Cedar Park, Round Rock, and Georgetown each handle electrical permitting differently. Unpermitted work becomes your problem at resale when it turns up on an inspection report.
Can you wire a shed for a window unit?
Yes. The feed has to be sized for what you actually plan to run out there. An extension cord under the door will not carry a window unit or power tools, and it is a fire risk besides.
What is GFCI and do I need it outside?
GFCI cuts power the instant it detects current going somewhere it should not, like through a person. Exterior receptacles require it. They also need weather-resistant outlets and in-use covers that keep water out while something is plugged in.
Can you add lighting to a patio that is already built?
Yes, though it costs more than doing it during the build because the runs have to be worked into finished framing. If you are planning a patio cover, wire it while it is open.
How much does outdoor lighting cost?
It depends on how many fixtures, how far the runs are, and whether the work ties into an existing circuit or needs a new one from the panel. If your panel is full or dated, that is a bigger conversation and we will tell you before we start.
Do you do landscape lighting as well as patio lighting?
Yes. Path lights, uplighting on trees, and lighting the front elevation. We lay out the runs so you are not looking straight into a fixture from the porch, which is the most common mistake in a DIY install.
