Damaged siding is not only an eyesore. It lets moisture into the wall assembly, and that leads to rot, mold, and framing problems that cost many times what the siding did. If yours took hail, or is cracking, warping, or pulling away from the house, it needs attention before the water finds the sheathing behind it.

Signs Your Siding Is Failing

Most of these you can spot from the yard on a walk around the house.

• Boards cupping or pulling loose at the seams
• Paint that will not hold, which usually means moisture from behind
• Soft spots you can press a thumb into
• Visible gaps at butt joints and around windows
• Swelling along the bottom edge, the classic hardboard failure here

Material Options

Fiber cement holds up best in Central Texas heat and is what most of our customers end up choosing. It resists UV, does not feed insects, and takes paint well. Vinyl costs less up front and installs faster, though it can warp under intense reflected sun. Wood and engineered wood look right on hill country homes but want more upkeep. We will walk you through the tradeoffs and what each one costs on your house.

Full Removal and Replacement

The parts nobody sees are the parts that decide whether it lasts.

• Pull the damaged siding down to the sheathing
• Inspect for water damage and rot, repair what needs it
• Housewrap on correctly and lapped the right direction
• Proper flashing at windows and transitions

Partial Replacement Is Sometimes Enough

If hail hit one elevation and left the rest alone, replacing that side is a legitimate option. Be aware of the tradeoff: siding fades in Texas sun, so a new section will not match the old ones exactly even in the same color and product. On a back wall nobody sees, that is fine. On the front elevation it may not be. We will tell you honestly how it will look from the curb.

Siding and Roofing Together

A hail storm that hit your roof very often hit the siding on the same elevation, and both usually belong on one claim. Doing them together means one crew and the roof-to-wall flashing handled as a single detail, rather than two contractors pointing at each other later.

Insurance Assistance

Storm damage to siding is frequently covered by homeowner policies, and it is one of the things adjusters most often underpay because it is harder to see than roof damage. We document every elevation, and Haydn works with your adjuster to make sure the siding is scoped properly rather than written off as cosmetic.

Clean Work and Cleanup

Siding tear-off makes a mess. Old boards, nails, and cut ends end up in the beds if nobody is paying attention. We tarp the work area, haul it off, and sweep for fasteners before we leave.
